This is a vintage print that belongs to an original set of 32 reproduction prints entitled Soviet Painting. This print includes a descriptive protective tissue guard with the painting’s title, the artist’s name, the painting technique, the date, and a short essay about the work and the artist, providing historical and stylistic context (see last picture). Published just months before Nazi Germany’s invasion of Poland (September 1939) and two years before Hitler’s devastating attack on the Soviet Union (June 1941), this poster represents the confident, triumphant face the Soviet state projected to the world-and its own citizens-before the catastrophe of World War II. Scene depicts the painting. “Tractors in a Lumber Camp”. (or sometimes “Tractor in the Woods” or “Tractor for forestry work”) by the Russian artist. The artwork is a notable example of Soviet art from that era, depicting a modern, industrial scene of logging in a snowy, mountainous landscape. The painting directly relates to the Soviet Union’s intensive industrialization efforts during the first and second Five-Year Plans, which aimed to rapidly modernize the country’s economy. Depicting powerful machinery like tractors in the remote, snowy taiga served to glorify modern technology and human mastery over nature in service of national goals. The poster was created by KUDRYASHOVA KLAVDIA ANDREEVNA (1927-) – Famous Ukrainian Soviet poster artist. Member of the Union of Artists of USSR. Klavdia Kudrashova was born on 10 of October 1928 in village Skaty of Kurganivskoy area. During his studies at the Lviv Polytechnic Institute in 1949 met her future husband Evgeny Kudrashov. Together, they were transferred first in Lviv Institute of arts and crafts, and to the Kiev Art Institute. Both graduated from the Kiev State Institute of Art in 1953. Graduates immediately were hired a popular publishing house “Art”. Klavdia takes on complex detail work. Eugeny – on the contrary, almost no draws on order. He brings to the publishing house ready artworks. During his artistic career she created about 200 posters and 250, together with her husband Kudryashov Evgeny. In total, over 60 years of working together were created about 600 posters. Klavdia Kudrashova – bright, outstanding representative of Ukrainian Soviet poster school. History: Hero of Socialist Labor was an honorary title of the Soviet Union and other Warsaw Pact countries. It was the highest degree of distinction for exceptional achievements in national economy and culture. It provided a similar status to the title Hero of the Soviet Union that was awarded for heroic deeds, but unlike the latter, was not awarded to foreign citizens. The Honorary Title “Hero of Socialist Labor” was introduced by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union on December 27, 1938. Originally, Heroes of Socialist Labor were awarded the highest decoration of the Soviet Union, the Order of Lenin and a certificate from the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union.
