Large 15 antique Russian stockinette cloth doll, Soviet Union Smolensk district

Charming, 15″ tall , (large) all cloth, good condition, earlier model, circa 1917 -22, sewn in cloth labeled: Made in Soviet Union /8012/Smolensk district Woman young adult woman doll with stockinette head and wonderfully detailed hands with finely stitched fingers as described on page 76, “15th Blue Book-Foulke. She has padded breasts, shaped knees and expertly molded and painted serene features with very sensitive and attractive, painted blue, eyes with high lights, brows, rounded cheeks with blush, gentle mouth with closed lips, head covered by beautiful paisley printed scarf beneath her apricot cotton babushka with printed trim. Her very detailed linen shirt (” sarafan”) with lovely, ethnic decorated shoulders and sleeves, finished edges and colorful hemline is covered by her long dark, jumper-like dress with long decorative panel and rose straps & trim. She also wears long linen panties and tight fitting, long leg wraps with ties and beautiful woven wicker, straw-type shoes (lapti). She is pictured and described in the article shown and is in good condition with no damage, slight fading, slight wear at tip of nose, no repairs, no holes, tears or stains (old reinforcing stiches at neck under scarf) and no odors as she is from a smoke free home. (loc 18) Other Russian women dolls (including her later Smolensk sister) and smaller Russian family dolls are not included and are each listed separately. These hard to find, larger dolls are displayed at the Wenham Museum and thought to be imported by a few American businesses to depict the various provinces as explained in 1951 by Adeline Cole. Antique RUSSIAN STOCKINETTE – TANIKA & VANIKA1930 Soviet Union Handmade. These are a (LOT OF 2). PRICE IS FOR BOTH DOLLS! These dolls have been in my home for quite some time and are quite collectible. These 2 are a COUPL E and will sell as a COUPLE, whom are believed to be courting and their names are Tanika , and Vanika , (Marked SOVIET UNION 8203) They are Handmade Stockinette Dolls From the late 1920s to the early 1930s. They represent the USSR: The Union of the Soviet Socialist Republic. As I stated they are highly collectible and are rare to happen upon, however, I no longer have room and they need a new home. They are in their original clothes, have never been cleaned (as they are quite delicate and require a expert in dolls/stockinette’s to do so). Shoes are in good shape for the most part, exception in the (reed) in the toe are has minor loosening, but not bad at all (see photos). They have a very light smell of a doll that is approximately 90 years old and is handmade of wire and papermache, wool, silk, cloth, cotton, and reed (shoes). Overall though, in my opinion, they are in good condition, a bit dirty, (stored in a paper tissue inside a bag in my loft), non smoker home , again stored in our loft of our garage , no pets/ no cigarettes! There are no moth holes, tears or rips… Just bear in mind these are going on the better part of a Century old. Vanika has a face that is as cute and handsome any young man could have, who has come courting, and Tanika (closed eyes) appears as if she thinks so as well. From a “family” of regional dolls. This is a delightful, all original, 10 inch tall, Russian jointed, stockinette cloth, girl doll, circa late 1920s , Citizen of the Soviet Union , representing the peoples of the then recently formed USSR (Soviet Socialist Republic). This precious doll still has her original cloth label stitched to her chest: 8098, Made in Soviet Union, tab-jointed arms and legs with bent knees (so she can sit easily) and charmingly formed hands with individually molded fingers and separate thumbs. She is made of firmly stuffed cotton twill fabric (stockinette head) with very nicely painted features including blue eyes with highlights, brows, lovely mouth and nose details and blushed cheeks and wears all her original provincial clothing including her pretty apron with double-row of ruffle trim over a long, colorfully printed skirt with attached cream cotton shirt with long gathered sleeves and wonderful, colorful paisley printed, tall headdress edged with ruffle, attached fringed scarf over her center-parted, blonde floss hair that is carefully braided under at the back of her head. With knit stockings and black cloth shoes. She is in excellent, super clean condition with no odors. Or repairs, no stains and from a smoke free home. Darling, all original, 10 inch tall, Russian jointed, stockinette cloth doll, circa late 1920s , Citizen of the Soviet Union , representing the peoples of the then recently formed USSR (Soviet Socialist Republic). This precious doll has tab-jointed arms and legs with bent knees (so she can sit easily) and wonderful formed hands with individually molded fingers and separate thumbs. She is made of firmly stuffed cotton twill fabric (stockinette head) with very nicely painted features including blue eyes with highlights, brows, lovely mouth and nose details and wears all her original provincial cloth including her beautifully printed (polka dot design) apron over a long cream cotton shirt with long gathered sleeves and burgundy trim, long full black skirt with stitched trim (sewn-on cloth label: Kimport Dolls/Made in Russia) and undies with cloth sewn-on label: Made in Soviet Union, knit stockings and black cloth shoes. She also wears a lovely red head scarf over her center-parted, blonde floss hair that is carefully braided into a circle around her head. She is in very good condition with no stains or odors, no tears or repairs and in extremely clean condition some ageing to the fabric covering on her face that does not distract. Antique 14 Mordwa Woman Stockinette Cloth Doll Made in Soviet Union. Cloth labeled in blue text under the dress as: Made In Soviet Mordwa Woman. These dolls were made from 1920s-1940s based on the design of the fabrics that are used to decorate the dolls. These Russian dolls were made for export during the early Soviet period (first quarter of 20th C) and they represent the various regions of the USSR with the dolls outfitted in their typical regional costumes. The fabrics used on the dolls outfits can also the date of the dolls rather easily. The faces are traditionally silk stockinette fabric with details hand-painted, fingers molded together and the doll is a standing figure. Traditional regional fabrics were used to make these costumes and the feet were encased in lapti, the woven bast shoes worn by peasants. For textile collectors these are rare examples of bits of Soviet fabric design from that era. Thank you for looking. Adorable matching PAIR of. Early, 1920s vintage, stockinette cloth, ethnic dolls. Each with their very large, sewn-on cloth labels. 8040 and “Made in Russia” VANKA No. This charming pair of cloth over wire armature dolls have applied hair and molded and finely painted features (he has side-glancing eyes and she has closed eyes) and mitt type hands and wear their original colorful and layered clothing. She wears a charming, long floral printed peasant skirt with gathered waist and thin shoulder straps, a padded, peasant-style blouse with long full sleeves, golden apron and undergarments, her brown floss hair is center parted and drawn back under two colorful, (blue over bright pink) babushka scarfs and. Woven “lapti” straw shoes. Tied at the waist and with a matching bright pink, cotton shirt, brown flannel coat and a black flannel cap with visor covering his brown hair and matching woven straw shoes. I lived in Russia as an expat for many years and amassed a a superb collection of dolls from Europe and Russia, which I bought from specialized doll collectors. I have an impressive collection of these stockinette dolls which I found in an antique shop in Moscow. They are all dated from the 1920s-1940s based on the design of the fabrics that are used to decorate the dolls. This is a large 14 inch Village boy. These are RARE and hard to come by these days. The New Russians have rediscovered their heritage and are collecting them. For textile collectors these are rare examples of bits of Soviet fabric designs from that era. Early, 1920s antique, stockinette cloth, ethnic doll. With sewn-on cloth label. “Made in Soviet Union”. This charming cloth-over-wire armature doll has molded and finely painted features including blue eyes and rosy cheeks and mitt type hands and wears all her original colorful and layered clothing with sewn-in label: A. Velikorusska wears a lovely, red & white printed babushka, head scarf, long. Peasant style, dark blue, fully lined dress with shoulder straps and printed trim, a long, peasant-style blouse with long full sleeves and undergarments and. Woven “lapti” straw shoes. With laced and padded stockings. She is in very clean and bright condition with no stains or fading with her label securely stitched to her petticoat. She is in excellent, clean condition with no stains or fading, no damages or repairs and no odors as she is from a smoke free home. These dolls make a nice family group when displayed together.
