Unique and rare design: a white dial with big black Arabic numerals, non-numeric hour marks, “0” mark instead of “12” and hands in a big round chrome-plated case; in the centre there’s the depiction of a sickle and a hammer (the main symbols of the USSR meant to represent proletarian solidarity – a union between the peasantry and working-class), above the hammer there’s “USSR”, under the sickle “Glasnost” is written (“openness”, in the Russian Empire of the late-19th century, the term was particularly associated with reforms of the judicial system, among which were reforms permitting attendance of the press and the public at trials whose verdicts were now to be read aloud; in the mid-1980s, it was popularised by Mikhail Gorbachev as a political slogan for increased government transparency in the Soviet Union).
