Rare 1920s Soviet Literacy Propaganda Poster – “The Illiterate is Like a Blind Man” – A. “?????????????????????? -????????????????????????????? ” Translation: The illiterate is like a blind man-everywhere he faces misfortune and disaster. Radakov (Aleksei Radakov), well-known Russian illustrator and political cartoonist. This poster was created during the Soviet Union’s Likbez campaign (“liquidation of illiteracy”), a massive literacy drive launched after the October Revolution. The illustration style mimics traditional lubok folk prints, making the message accessible to rural populations. Such posters were displayed in schools, reading rooms, and village cooperatives to urge citizens to pursue education. Size: 68 cm × 48.5 cm (26.75 in × 19.1 in).
